'Mise-en-scene blog tasks'

This particular image from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2, David Yates uses lighting to set a an ominous and dark mood to set the scene for the audience. The characters/actors present in this image are dementors and their costume is alo very dark and makes them look dangerous and scary which further makes the audience realize that this movie isn't going to be uplifting or positive  but instead it may be scary and intense.The setting chosen for this image is the silhouette of Hogwarts, some distant mountains shadowing the castle  as well as a lot of dementors surrounding the castle.The fact that there are objects/"harmful beings" surrounding the castle could further emphasise that Hogwarts is in danger and isn't safe from anything harmful coming its way .Their is also a small amount of fog hovering on the bottom of the image which adds to the ominous mood because its a clear indication that there is mystery or something unclear in the story to come that needs to be cleared.

 The image from the musical singing in the rain is a classic fifties type image with the royal colors in the costume and background which shows the warmth and positive tone in the movie. The lighting also does this as it is most focused  on  both the male and female which shows that they are the main characters in this particular scene also  in the background there are other people but hardly any light is focused on them which emphahsises who the main characters are. The costume also does this as both the male and female are wearing brightly coloured clothes  which are significantly different to the other actors visible in the image as they are all wearing dark clothing so they don't stand out as much. The props visible in this image are a hat which seems to impact the relationship of the two protagonists as it causes both of them to look at each other quite sternly. Lastly the setting seems to be a club of some sort with a painted on door and lights to add to the fantasy the main male character is having.This is very different to the kingsman, which is a crime film, because the image is quite uneasy and unusual because first of all the setting is a church however one of the characters is pointing a gun at a  woman which shows an intense life threatening moment and also shows a contrast with the situation and the setting because a church is a religious place which is meant for pace and serenity but due to the fact there is someone threatening to kill makes this image very ironic. Also the lighting adds to irony as its very bright and makes the scene seem very positive and happy but its actually the opposite and it very sinister and uneasy. Furthermore the actors costume show what type of character they are, for example the man pointing the gun at the woman has a dark suit on which could suggest that he is an evil and dark character but the woman who seems to be the victim has on quite pastel colour clothes which could suggest she is a soft and kind person that is being threatened. This is different from sinign in the rain because   all the elements of mise en scene in the image match the theme of the film however in kingsmen the elements heavily contrast with whats actually going on in the image. In stranger things the image is heavily saturated to suggest an unnatural and sci fi theme.Furthermore the different colours in the sky could possibly show two different worlds colliding and the four main actors, who look very retro, seem to focused on that which could easily suggest that they are going to be heavily impacted by this.
