Film Industry: Assessment learner response

1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

B-grade
www: a very solid assessment that shows good knowledge of the British film industry and CSP. Your answers are detailed and extensive
ebi: in Q3 you need a more sophisticated discussion of the question to access the top level A/A*. Addressing the other side of the argument would help with this: if its important that these films are made, how should they be funded? Film is a risky business and studios need to make money!

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Write down the number of marks you achieved for the three questions: _/2; _/4; _/9.

question 1 : 2/2
question 2 : 4/4
question 3 : 6/9

3) For Question 2 on Chicken, use the mark scheme to identify at least one strategy used to promote Chicken to an audience that you didn't mention in your answer. The key lesson from this question was to make specific reference to the CSP in your answer.

Quotes/recommendations from industry figures/celebrities (e.g. Sir Ian McKellen) is another strategy
Chicken used to promote the film. This helped the film as Sir Ian McKellen is a respectable actor in the film industry who has a loyal and strong fan  base so for chicken, a micro budget art-house film, to be recognised by an actor such as Sir Ian McKellen gives the film a significant amount of attention and  Sir Ian McKellen could influence his audience to watch the film as he recommends and commends it.

4) Now look at Question 3. Using the mark scheme as a guide, write a paragraph arguing that it is NOT important for the British film industry to make social-realist films like Chicken and that it should concentrate on making bigger-budget movies funded by Hollywood studios.

Social-realist films such as chicken should not be made as they are not guaranteed any success , just like any other film, but due to chicken being a low budget film originally there is no certain guarantee of success so it gives audiences, companies , investors the reason to question if they should watch it if no one is going to pay to watch and/or invest in it.

5) Finally, cover the other side of the debate. Write a paragraph arguing that it IS important for the British film industry to make social-realist films like Chicken and that such films contribute strongly to the social and cultural influence of the industry. You may also consider how they should be funded here. Use the mark scheme to help you with this.

Social-realist films such as Chicken should be made as it allows social issues that occur in society to be drawn attention to and for people to be aware of them such as abuse and inequality. Also, films like these allow upcoming actors like Scott Chambers to gain attention and make their mark in the industry and gain hopeful success.
